Waterfowl ringing in Evros Delta
During the European research project “Influence of viral proteins of avian influenza virus on the innate immune response of birds” 3 waterfowl traps were built in the Evros Delta, by the Management Authority.
The aim of the project was, among others, to investigate the migration of these birds using ringing techniques.
The ringing process started in 2007 and it is continued until today, while the research project had already finished in June 2010.
In total, 837 birds have been ringed in Evros Delta, of the following species: Mallard Anas platyrhynchos, Pintail A. acuta, Garganey A.querquedula, Tufted Duck Aythya fuligula and Coot Fulica atra.

During the current winter, 141 birds are already ringed in a period of less than one month overcoming our greatest expectations!
An interesting fact is that birds that were ringed in Evros Delta were recovered in Hungary and Russia, covering more than 2000 km in one of those occasions!

Δακτυλίωση παπιών στο Δέλτα του Έβρου
Ο Φορέας Διαχείρισης Εθνικού Πάρκου Δέλτα Έβρου κατά τη συμμετοχή του στο ευρωπαϊκό ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα “Influence of viral proteins of avian influenza virus on the innate immune response of birds” εγκατέστησε παγίδες σύλληψης παπιών στον υγροβιότοπο, με σκοπό μεταξύ άλλων να μελετηθεί η μετανάστευση της ορνιθοπανίδας μέσω της τεχνικής των δακτυλιώσεων.
Οι παγίδες σύλληψης ξεκίνησαν να λειτουργούν το 2007 και ενώ το σχετικό ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα ολοκληρώθηκε τον Ιούνιο του 2010, ο Φορέας Διαχείρισης συνεχίζει να λειτουργεί τις συγκεκριμένες παγίδες.
Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν δακτυλιωθεί 837 πουλιά από τα είδη Πρασινικέφαλη Anas platyrhynchos, Ψαλίδα A. acuta, Σαρσέλα A.querquedula, Μαυροκέφαλη Aythya fuligula και Φαλαρίδα Fulica atra.

Η φετινή χρονιά έχει ξεκινήσει με τις καλύτερες προϋποθέσεις, όσον αφορά στον αριθμό των δακτυλιωμένων πουλιών, αφού μέχρις στιγμής έχουν δακτυλιωθεί 141 πουλιά σε διάστημα μικρότερου του ενός μήνα!
Ενδιαφέρον είναι ότι πουλιά που δακτυλιώθηκαν στο Δέλτα του Έβρου βρέθηκαν στην Ουγγαρία και στη Ρωσία, καλύπτοντας αποστάσεις μεγαλύτερες των 2000 km!
