In the Evros Delta, I like to:

The Lesser White-fronted Geese again in the Delta!

The Lesser White-fronted Gοose Anser erythropus, is the most endangered watebird in Europe and is a species classified as "Critically Endangered" at national and European level. The European population breeds in Norway and winters in Greece in the wetlands of Kerkini Lake and the Evros Delta.

The 80 birds of this last flock, after spending a significant period in Kerkini, arrived as usual every year, in the meadows of the Delta, where they find shelter and food. However, their first arrival in mid-January was not final, as the birds decided to return to Kerkini after a two-week stay, where they stayed for a few days. Then they came back to our area where they are today.

The Management Body actively participates in monitoring and protection activities of the species every winter, while from this year, participates in the new LIFE program, with the participation of five countries (Greece, Finland, Lithuania, Estonia and Hungary) in order to protect this emblematic species .

Finally, it is worth mentioning that in the Delta there are also some other species of wintering geese and in particular more than 800 White-fronted Geese Anser albifrons and about 130 Greylag Geese Anser anser.
