Spring brings many changes in nature. It is at the same time a season with many bird movements.

Evros Delta is a very important wetland for the migration of birds, between their areas of wintering and breeding. This importance is known for many years now. It is why Evros Delta is officially characterized as a migration bottleneck.

To confirm the fact, during five days of bird countings by the Management Body staff last week, large numbers of passage migrants have been recorded in Evros Delta wider area.

More than 9500 White Storks (Ciconia ciconia) and more than 3000 White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus) were counted those five days. Together with 300 Spotted Eagles (Clanga pomarina), 120 Black Storks (Ciconia nigra) and a few dozens Short – toed snake Eagles (Circaetus gallicus).

Harsh winds that prevailed the last days in the area, posed difficulties on the migrating birds, which continued their long trip despite them.
