Evros Delta is a very important wetland for the migration of birds, between their areas of wintering and breeding. This importance is known for many years now.

To confirm the fact, during six days of bird countings by the Management Body staff in the first fortnight of April, large numbers of passage migrants have been recorded in Evros Delta wider area.

More than 3300 White Pelicans (Pelecanus onocrotalus) and more than 530 White Storks (Ciconia ciconia) were counted those six days. Together with more than 25 Short – toed snake Eagles (Circaetus gallicus) and a few dozens Spotted Eagles (Clanga pomarina) and Black Storks (Ciconia nigra).
